Albertans have been paying for abortions since 1970 through the Alberta Healthcare Insurance plan. As of the year 2001, we have paid for 220,161 abortions in Alberta with a modest cost estimate of over $110 million. In 2001, the total abortions paid for were 10,589.

This is the equivalent of a classroom aborted every day in Alberta - 29 abortions, at a minimum cost of $14,500 each and every day.

Alberta Pro-Life has been addressing this issue for several years, and we will continue to lobby the Alberta government to change its current policy of paying for abortion-on-demand.  We would encourage you to become involved!

WHAT CAN I DO?

The most important thing you can do is go and visit your MLA to let them know that you do not want your tax dollars to be paying for abortion-on-demand.  If you do not know who your MLA is, you can call the government's toll free rite line at 310-0000 or visit their website at www.assembly.ab.ca if you have an idea who it might be.  One visit is great, but imagine if every MLA got 10 visits from constituents on the same topic!  So, please encourage your friends, neighbors & clergymen to do the same thing.
